When gamblers think of the Phoenix Suns over the past few years, Steve Nash is often the first player that comes to mind. Nash acknowledged this week that he has been separated from his wife Alejandra, and that the couple is getting divorced. The news comes one day after the couples son was born.
Gamblers have always been fond of Nash for his amazing play-making abilities and his insistence on getting his teammates involved. With the announcements of the divorce, gamblers are now wondering what affect the divorce will have on Nash and the betting odds for Phoenix in the near future.
Anytime a couple goes through a break up, it is hard dealing with the adjustment period that follows. Nash and his wife have been married for five years, and with the birth of their son, the adjustment period may take longer than if children were not involved. Still, Nash insists that the divorce will not be a hindrance on their children or his game.
"I want only good things for Ale going forward," said Nash, as reported by The Associated Press. "I'm focused on ensuring that our children understand how much they're adored and loved by us as they continue to adjust to these changes. I would ask that their privacy, and ours as a family, be respected as we move forward. This will be my only statement on this."
While that may be good enough for his fans, bettors may be inclined to see how the situation plays out before trusting the Suns with their money. Phoenix has a game Sunday in Los Angeles against the two-time defending champion Lakers, and they also will play the new look Miami Heat early this week.
Phoenix had already fallen out of favor with gamblers this season after losing Amare Stoudemire to free agency this summer. The loss of Stoudemire has many, including the odds makers, believing that it is a long shot that Phoenix can return to the Western Conference finals again this year.
